There might not be anything really special about your living room, this is why it’s really important to create a focal point. While that sounds like a fancy designer term it is something that everyone can do. You need to add height to at least one piece in your room to get a dramatic look. You can do this by building up your fireplace mantel so the stone goes from floor to ceiling, or just hang your curtains higher. The focal point should be the place where you want everyone to gather around and be impressed, it shouldn’t just be your TV.

You might just be working with this same neutral couch that seems to be in so many homes. A lot of new construction homes lack character and architectural details. Living Room Furniture Ideas For Your Home

Some people do not start buying living room furniture until they buy their first house, or most of the time they make do with old tacky furniture that they get from other people who do not want it anymore. My first experience with buying my own living room furniture is surely not something I want to remember. Luckily, I learned from this, and the second time was the best time ever. That is why I want to give you some pointers that you can use to make your first time a very special occasion. This should be an experience which you will want to remember forever. The first thing you should do is get the correct measurements for your living room. You also need to see where exactly all of the windows are, so that you can choose furniture that will fit perfectly and compliment the room to its fullest potential. While taking the measurements in the room, you should mentally sketch a picture of what it is you want this room to look like. You can go crazy with your design ideas. If you want to be fancy, you can use the latest software available and design a complete room. This will make it easier for you when you choose your living room furniture. You will also be able to make sure that all of the pieces fit perfectly with one another. Another very important factor you need to consider when buying is the balance between the different pieces. You do not want a leather chair to stand out like a sore thumb between two sofas of a softer material. If you keep this in mind, buying living room furniture will be the best experience of your life.

How would you design/decorate this living room/kitchen?

The colours I’m using are violet indigo, copper orange, and pear green. The elements I’m using are wood, stone, metal, and glass. I want the overall look and feel to be an even mesh between a hip NYC loft and beachy vacation home.

HELP!! INTERIOR DESIGN TROUBLE. HARDWOOD FLOOR ROOM(S) DESIGNING?

In my downstairs area, I have my living room, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom that all needs new flooring. My uncle wants all hard wood flooring, however, he’s letting me pick the design. Should they all be the same color/design hardwood floors in ALL the rooms? If not, what colors would blend nicely from room to room? I know the bathroom+kitchen would be more tile base, but what about the bedroom and living room? should they be the same color? if not, any suggestions? for ex, should they blend in if they are going to be different?

Where can I find interior wireless lighting?

I am very interested in track lighting, however because I rent my town home, I didn’t want to hire an electrician for this job.

Where can I find lighting that is either wireless, or has a normal AC plug, in which I could discreetly run the plug down the wall instead of re-wiring my living room

Why don't blacks work?

with my living room design- I have a grey couch, and white pillows, and my wife says black fabric will make the design too bland? I disagree, who is right?

What would you offer?

Alrighty, so we’re thinking about offering on a house we’ve been debating about for a while.
It’s priced at 170k.
It’s located in a great neighborhood that we want. It’s almost the size we wanted, the owners have kept it in fantastic condition.
Backyard is just what we need w/ our dogs.
However.. there are a few things that although not big, would require quite a bit of work to be done.
The entire interior of the house would have to be repainted. The owners definitely made it their own taste and.. well.. to put it mildly.. they enjoy ALOT of color. The house is about 1900sq ft, so.. yeah.. it would take a lot of work to repaint the interior.
Also in the living room, they have this really HUGE ugly entertainment center for this humongous tv. That wouldn’t be a problem, except for the fact that they pretty much attached this thing to the walls making it a semi-perma fixture which would also require quite a bit of work to get rid of.

more details inc…..
With that being said though… as I mentioned before.. other than that it’s pretty much just what we want.
We’re just hesitant b/c we look at it as alot of work needs to be done before we can move in.

Also… I know alot of sellers give a $$ carpet allowance…. would it be normal to ask for $$ so we can paint it?
Thanks….
I should’ve mentioned that the 170k is the 2nd time the house has dropped in price. I’m not sure what it started out as… think our agent told us 184k but I can’t really remember. Then the price dropped (about when we started looking) to 179k…. and a month ago dropped to 170k.
It does look like they’re desperate to get out, BUT I don’t get the feeling that they would take much less than what they’re asking for it now.

Anyways.. blahblahblah.. thanks for the replies :)

New house – AC trouble?

When we looked at the house it was 100 degrees outside but the inside was just a bit warmer than I’m comfortable with. We’ve had the house for 1 week. Now that it’s 80 degrees outside I can’t get our AC to a comfortable level. There’s two units, one for the new kitchen addition and one for the rest of the house. There’s a ten degree (or more) difference from the living room (where the thermostat is) to the uppermost bedroom (above the living room). The house is sealed pretty well… interior air pressure keeps the doors from closing easily (they have to be pushed somewhat to close fully), so I don’t think there are any air leaks.
